Glazed Pork Chops Recipe

I don't know what it is about pork, but it sure is delicious. In our household, we really enjoy pork chops. It's not something I will make very often, but more of a special treat. I have played around with several ways of making them, and I swear, most of them always come out so good! This dish was no different!
I made a basic rub out of brown sugar and spices. The mixture becomes a delicious glaze, sure to appeal to just about everyone! I love the combination of sweet and spicy, so for me, this was heaven! I paired it with loaded potatoes and green beans.

3 pork chops (I went with boneless, but you can do bone-in if you prefer)

2 tbsp. olive oil

2 cups brown sugar

2 tsp. cayenne powder

2 tsp. paprika

2 tsp. salt

2 tsp. black pepper

  1. In a bowl, combine the brown sugar with cayenne powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove pork chops from their package and place each one in the bowl, being sure to cover both sides with the mixture.

  2. Add about 2 tbsp. of olive oil in a pan and put on medium-high heat.

  3. Once the oil is hot, carefully place pork chops in the pan. Add all the left over brown sugar and spices into the pan as well.

  4. Allow to cook about 8 minutes on each side, occasionally moving and basting the pork chops with glaze from the bottom of the pan.

  5. Once you are sure the pork chops are thoroughly, remove from heat and serve.

Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: approx. 20 minutes
Cost: approx. $1.65 per serving

Broccoli Salad Recipe

A few weeks after my husband and I got married, we were invited to a big family gathering at his sister's house. Our first family event as a married couple! A big family brunch! I would be seeing some of his family that I either had never met before, or only seen very briefly. I can't say I was nervous really, more just some mild anxiety, lol. I wanted everyone to like me, I wanted my son to behave himself, and I wanted to make sure the dish I brought was going to be a hit with everyone!

This was the type of family brunch where everyone brings a dish to pass. There were no special requests or guidelines on what to bring, so it was totally up to me. It came to me pretty quickly; the broccoli salad that I have made several times before! Everyone always loves it! Plus, just to be on the safe side, I would bring a big pan of brownies too! Because who doesn't love the girl who brings the yummy brownies, right?!? ;)

So, this broccoli recipe is pretty easy. There is no actual cooking involved, it's all just chopping and mixing. This is seriously 100% my very own recipe. I had never had broccoli salad before just a few years ago. I was at a restaurant and had it for the first time. While eating it I thought, "this is really good...I bet I could make this at home." I paid attention to the ingredients and the taste and I made it myself shortly after. I thought my version was very close to what I had at the restaurant, only even better! (pardon me while I pat myself on the back, lol)
2 lbs. broccoli florets
2 cups mayonnaise
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup real bacon bits
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
Start off my washing 2 lbs. of broccoli florets. Chop up to desired size.
Place chopped broccoli in a large bowl.
Mix in mayonnaise, cheese, bacon, sugar, salt, and pepper.
Combine all ingredients until well blended.
Cover and refrigerate.
I made it the evening before the gathering. I find that it tastes better after it sits for several hours. It allows the mayonnaise to adsorb some and the flavors to blend. But of course, it can be eaten right away if you wish! Also, feel free to play with the amounts of ingredients. Everyone has slightly different ideas on what the best broccoli salad is like, so no need to stick strictly to my recipe. This would be the perfect dish for any of your upcoming summer cook-outs!
So, how did my broccoli salad go at the family brunch?.....It was a total success! I received many compliments on it and I was left with only a small bit left in the big bowl after everyone dug in! And of course, no surprise, the brownies were loved by all too! By the way, totally unrelated to my recipe, but I really love my extended family! My in-laws, brother/sister-in-laws, and so on, were all such a pleasure to spend the afternoon with! Family is so important to me. Blood, or not. I enjoy being a part of my husband's family <3

The Queen Bee found her King! (part 1)

Yes, it's true! It took me over 30 years to find him, but this "Queen" has officially found her King!

Just a little over a month ago, we got married. Now, this was not a first marriage for either of us, so we wanted to keep it quiet, simple, and stress-free! It was a perfect, no frills wedding! I had already had the big wedding with 100 guests, a big puffy dress, limo and 3 tier cake. I did not feel the need, or even want, for such an elaborate event again. Neither did my groom.
Ahhh yes, my groom; I guess I should officially introduce him, shouldn't I? His name is Greg, and he is truly a wonderful man. Now, he is a bit of a private person, so I might not drag him into too many blog posts. However, this one, about us getting married...well, it is sort of hard to leave him out of, right? lol...He will be a good sport about it, I'm sure. Like most blogger's husband's, he probably thinks I'm slightly nuts for all of the picture taking and all, but so far, he is handling it all very well. (Mostly because he is awesome, of course!)

We met a few years ago and dated on and off. Timing was bad on those occasions, but I think when two people really love and care for each other, they find a way to make it happen! We did! We share religious beliefs, morals, values, interests, and work so amazingly together towards common goals. He means the world to me and I can't imagine my life without him in it. (Ok, enough of the mushy talk!)
So, as you may have already noticed, this is part one, of a two part series. Part one, right here, is just the announcement of my marriage and a little introduction of my "king". Part two, coming soon, will be a post about how to have the most simple (and therefor also the cheapest) wedding ever! Now, I know those of you getting married for the first time are going to want all the frills and fuss. I totally get that. I did too. However, if you have gone through that before, and find yourself getting married again (yes, we know the statistics on divorce rates these days) then maybe quick and simple is the way to go. So, stay tuned for that post!
Thank you all for taking the time to stop by!

Melatonin for Better Sleep...

Do you ever have trouble falling asleep? Or staying asleep? At the end of the day, sometimes I have trouble dozing off. Sometimes I can feel tired, it is just hard to actually fall asleep. I don't want to take heavy sleep aids, however, sometimes Melatonin can offer a little help without being put in a coma-like state lol. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone in the body that helps to regulate the body’s sleep-wake cycles.
Some even claim that Melatonin may help fight some forms of cancer, and can lessen some of the side effects of chemotherapy. Also, Melatonin has been said to help with insomnia associated with certain conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, depression, and Schizophrenia. Of course, please consult your physician before using this product for such things.
I take two gummies, yummy strawberry flavored, before bed...I doze off quickly, and sleep like a rock! I have taken three different nights and each time, I slept very well. I was able to wake up when it was time to get up too. This was unlike one experience I had with an over the counter PM medication, which made me want to sleep the whole day away. That is not the affect you want!

Fashion Friday with HQB!

Alright guys...I took a little step away from blogging for the last month or so...but, with good reason! I got married! So, as you can guess, there was a lot going on and a lot to do! I just needed to focus on my personal life for a bit...I'm sure you all can understand and relate. Do y'all want to see some pics? I was thinking about maybe doing a little blog post about our big day, but I don't know yet, lol.
So, yes, now that I am a happily married woman, (my hubby is so awesome, by the way!) I can start getting back to my normal routine. So, I figured jumping back in for a Fashion Friday blog post sounded like a good plan! Mostly because I have recently seen two fashion trends that have me scratching my head! I need to talk about them!
Now, I am no fashion expert, but I like to think that I have good fashion sense. When new trends pop up, some I like, some not so much. But, I must say, to these two that I have recently heard as the "latest trend", I just want to say "No, No, No!"
Furry nails? Have y'all seen this? Going to get your nails done is great, but please, leave the fur off! I don't even get the idea behind this. Does someone actually think this looks good? And can I just say, from germ and sanitation aspect of this "trend"...gross! How do you use the bathroom, and wash your hands with these furry things on your fingers? Oh gosh, it is just such nonsense!

The other thing I recently heard was a trend was this unicorn horn hairstyle. I don't know what exactly to call it, but that sounds about right. So, girls will make like a braid type thing upward from the front of their heads and it looks like a unicorn horn. Umm...I don't even know what to say, lol. Unless it is Halloween and you are dressing up as a unicorn, this is definitely a big "no" in my book.
I love fashion. I love following trends. But sometimes I think people has just gotten too carried away, or maybe it is just that we have done so much that it is hard to find the new cool thing to do. Anyway, I just had to express my dislike of the furry nails and of the unicorn horn hair.
What do you guys think? Yay or Nay on these trends???
